Notes
For Who Do You Think You Are? Season 3, First Frame served as the local production partner for the Rob Lowe episode, filmed in Marburg, Germany.
The episode follows actor Rob Lowe as he traces his maternal family's unexpected roots back to 18th century Germany. His research leads him to the discovery that his five-times great-grandfather, Christoph Oest, was a Hessian soldier hired by the British to fight against George Washington's troops at the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War in December 1776. Captured by Washington's forces, Oest eventually chose to remain in America rather than return to Germany, making him an unlikely founding thread in Rob Lowe's family history.
In Marburg, First Frame coordinated access to the Hessian military archive and facilitated the filming at Marburg University, where Rob Lowe met with Professor Holger Gräf, a Hessian military historian, to trace Ost's origins to the village of Fürstenhagen. The discovery that his ancestor was baptised there in August 1754 brought an extraordinary chapter of German-American history into deeply personal focus.
Who Do You Think You Are? is executive produced by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky and airs on NBC. The series accompanies prominent personalities on emotional journeys to discover their family roots.
