For NBC's hit travel entertainment series Better Late Than Never, First Frame service produced two episodes of Season 2 — the season opening Munich episode and the Berlin episode — across ten shooting days in Germany.
Produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio in association with Storyline Entertainment, the series follows five American legends — William Shatner, Henry Winkler, George Foreman, Terry Bradshaw, and comedian Jeff Dye — as they travel the world together, navigating foreign cultures with humour, curiosity, and no shortage of surprises. The German episodes marked the opening of the group's European journey.
In Munich, First Frame coordinated filming at, among others, the Bayerischer Hof, the Zugspitze, the BMW M Driving Experience test track in Maisach, the Englischer Garten, Viktualienmarkt, and Marienplatz. The cast wore Lederhosen, celebrated at a beerfest, enjoyed a nude picnic in the Englischer Garten, and recreated their own Julie Andrews moment from the iconic opening scene of The Sound of Music in the Bavarian Alps — a sequence that became one of the season's most memorable scenes.
The Berlin episode brought a more personal tone. Henry Winkler reconnected with his family's roots by retracing the paths of his relatives through the city — one of the most moving sequences in the entire series. Filming took place at, among others, the Brandenburger Tor, Checkpoint Charlie, the East Side Gallery, and the legendary Ostel Hostel, a former GDR property that provided the perfect backdrop for an encounter between American pop culture icons and Cold War history.
Special guests included David Hasselhoff, a figure of genuine cultural significance in Germany, who performed alongside the legendary Comedian Harmonists at the Ballhaus. First Frame coordinated a combined team of 120 local and US crew members alongside 85 local talents across both cities, managing high-traffic public locations, authority approvals, and the logistical demands of a production of this scale.
